Summer Faculty Fellowships
ILTE Guidelines for Course Development and Teaching-Related Research/Creative Work Fellowships
Applications from resident faculty members are considered for semester course development fellowships providing three hours of reassigned time and or teaching-related summer faculty fellowships that may include course development or research/creative work.
Proposals that involve course development or revision or the development of an instructional unit or tool should use the following outline. Cite disciplinary or pedagogical literature where applicable. These funds may be used to pay adjunct cover for two (2) faculty to team teach.
- Identify title and number of course(s) for which this proposal is submitted and indicate whether this is a new course for the campus, a new course for you or a revision/addition for a course you have previously taught.
- Identify the student population being served.
- Identify the teaching/learning problems the proposal addresses.
- Identify the specific objectives that will be accomplished.
- Describe the methods or approach you will take to accomplish the objectives.
- Describe your plans for evaluation/assessment.
- Describe any technology or media required to develop and/or to teach the course.
- Describe your plans for dissemination of the results of the project and indicate the degree to which this course (or elements of it) may he replicated by others in the same course or applicable to other courses.
- Provide a time-line for development and implementation. This section should make the need for reassigned time during the academic year or a summer fellowship apparent.
Proposals that involve research or creative activities related to pedagogy should use the following outline. Cite disciplinary or pedagogical literature where applicable.
- Identify the pedagogically relevant research hypothesis/question or creative problem to be investigated.
- Identify the significance of the project in relation to more general problems in pedagogy or your discipline.
- Describe your method or plain of work including research instruments and technologies to be employed.
- Indicate the potential applications of your research to pedagogical practice.
- Describe your plans for dissemination of the results of the project.
- Provide a time-line for the project from initial steps through final product. This section should make the need for a summer fellowship apparent.
All proposals should include the following sections. Applicants may append any additional information they deem relevant.
- An official cover sheet available from the ilte or academic affairs.
- Detailed budget with each item explained in a narrative or a statement that no funds beyond the stipend for adjunct replacement or summer salary are required.
- Applicant's special competence for this project including background, preparation, training, relevant teaching experience, and presentations/publications/exhibitions.
- Previous internal and external funding (give dates and amounts for all funding, attach progress reports for ius and iu funding and sabbatical leaves of absence). [note: reviewers will be interested in how well you have used previous funding, if any, and how previous projects relate to your current proposal, mere presence or absence of previous funding is not a factor in reviewing this proposal.
- Two letters of support. Letters should be sent directly to the dean for research, office of academic affairs. Letters should address the quality of the project and the qualifications of the applicant. For course-specific projects, letters should also address relevance for the academic program in which the applicant teaches. One letter must be from the applicant's dean.
