Scholarship of Teaching Learning Research (SoTL) | ||||||||||
What is SoTL: Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is a research-driven approach to studying classroom teaching and student learning and sharing it publicly either as a publication or a presentation. For information and examples of how to "do" SoTL, review the materials from Laurie Richlin's presentation at our 2004 teaching symposium. Pursuant to federal law and University policy, all research conducted by IUS investigators that involves human subjects must be reviewed and approved by the IUS Institutional Review Board for Protection of Human Subjects in Research (IRB). Typical SoTL research requires an application to the IRB along with an informed consent form. The table provides examples of when human subjects review is required. Examples:
